Engraving fine detail into the smooth surface of the 'float' glass allows detailed figurative reference to the natural world to simultaneously generate qualities of the ethereal and vague. This creates a two-way bridge between abstraction and figuration, uniting them to a degree and in a way unique to this particular combination of materials and media. The sense of fluid interchange between the material and immaterial, the visible and the invisible, becomes particularly acute.
